The Journey for Alex

The journey for Alex Martocello to UW-Lax has proven to be one of attrition and hard work. Alex holds a 28-4 record heading into the NCAA DIII Wrestling Championships. Chances are strong Alex would have had more wins going into the NCAA’s, but he lost his first bout of the season to Mononucleosis. Alex recovered and began his season in a quad meet at home before a packed M&T Bank Fieldhouse. From there, Alex took a workman like attitude towards the rest of the season.

An intense and powerfully built competitor, Alex uses his ability to refuse to yield to the will of others. Alex is the pure example of the creed, “I didn’t lose, I was just behind when time ran out.” Of his four losses this season, three were by one point and the other was by two points, and one of those was a riding point. Alex has worked hard since joining the Spartans to constantly improve. With his powerful frame, excellent conditioning and dominant mindset Alex will be a force to be reckoned with in the field.

On the mat, Alex is a ball on motion and energy. He has an innate instinct to keep attacking for the duration of the match and is always looking to score be it from his feet, blasting off of the bottom, or looking to score while on top. It is common for Alex’s opponents to show his pressure in their faces as most of the guys he wrestles end up wincing from his punishing pace and barrage of moves.

Alex is focused and ready for his first trip to the NCAA’s. He’s brought a new passion to winning and will be prepared to take on the field in the 184 Lb. weight class at UW-Lax.
